I wear light bases all year round but mostly in the warmer months, I tend to switch opting for lighter coverage “barely there” bases. So, I thought I would do a round-up and quick overview of my favourite light bases.

Kevyn Aucoin The Sensual Skin Tinted Balm Truly a balm, this is something between a BB cream/tinted moisturiser and a foundation. The texture is quite thick and when applied just leaves the skin looking like… skin! The finish is neither dewy nor matte, just looks really natural.

It has a reasonable good amount of coverage for a “tinted balm”. Because it’s such a thick formula, I do find that is best applied with hands or a makeup sponge, i.e. beauty blender.

On the website it claims that has SPF20, but doesn’t state anywhere in the actual tube and even on the box I remember not having any mention to it. However, it has Zinc oxide and titanium oxide (physical sunscreens) on the ingredient list so I guess, there’s some sun protection.

Chantecaille Just Skin Anti-Smog Tinted Moisturiser SPF15, the texture is not as thick as the one mentioned above but still quite thick. Glides over the skin and just leaves a veil of coverage evening out your skin tone. The finish is extremely luminous and dewy – so if you have very oily skin bear this is mind.

I find I reach for this one mostly in Summer. First this is my “summer” shade and second I find that from all the ones I own, this is the tinted moisturizer that wears better throughout the day as it does not cake up in weird places.

Chanel CC cream SPF50, by far my favourite of the four.  Has amazing coverage but still feels light on the skin and luminous finish. Applies really nicely and smoothes over any textured or dry areas. You need a really small amount to cover your whole face, if you apply to much it will cake around fine lines because it’s extremely creamy, be careful! Finally, it has SPF50 which is awesome!

NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser SPF30,  a cult classic! This is what I wear when I just want to slap on something on my face at 6am when my motor skills still not on point and I’m pressured for time.

This is so natural and it’s easy peasy to apply, the finish is very luminous and has a buildable light coverage. I tend to use it more in the winter time,  I do find in the summer months just makes me a bit oilier than usual, it has a gel formula and as the chanel one it is extremely smoothing over the skin.

What are your favourite light bases? Any recommendations?
